Copy Writing Company | Bye Bye Intsgram Likes

Instagram is starting to phase out the public display of a number of likes for posts. This means that you can still see the count of likes on your posts, your followers will not. The number of likes on a post has been the determining factor of popularity and economic impact for brands, influencers, and other Instagram users. One big push for this change is the impact likes have on younger people and those who are focused on likes for the wrong reasons, often equating the number of likes to their own worth. This to us sounds like a good change as it is putting the focus on the content itself rather than content that is just posted for a number.

On the marketing side of things, this may sound daunting to those who have their businesses connected to the platform, because it is often how sales are driven. Though, FootwearNews.com collected that Ryan Detert, CEO of influencer marketing platform Influential said “This makes brands evolve beyond vanity metrics and not solely focus on their owned and operated handle. Sales [are] about distribution, content and media alignment; sales metrics and ‘likes’ do not correlate … It shouldn’t affect brands given that swipe-up clicks are not going away.” Look at it this way, when you are looking at a post, it is more likely that you will click on another account that has commented on that post rather than scrolling through accounts that liked that post.

This means that for businesses and influencers whose likes are eventually hidden from followers to see, will not be negatively affected as some might have believed. What is important is the impact of posts in terms of actual engagement. When we comment, share, and swipe up on posts we are helping that account with their analytics to boost their influence in the algorithm of Instagram which helps businesses in their sales and promotions.

At 530 & Co. our focus is to help our clients with the type of organic marketing that will positively impact their brands.
